After Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid for Juventus, another star from the Spanish club is set to follow the path of the Portuguese attacker by joining him at Turin.
La Liga giants Real Madrid were dealt with a heavy blow when attacker Cristiano Ronaldo swapped the Champions League side for Serie A title holders Juventus last summer. This lose came on the back of Zinedine Zidane stepping down from his managerial role at the club.
When rumours of a potential move away from Madrid for Ronaldo was doing the rounds, Brazilian left back Marcelo is said to have claimed that he will follow the ex Manchester United star wherever he goes. Although nothing of that sort materialised last summer, some new reports from Italy suggest that the 30-year-old could be reuniting with his buddy at Juventus soon.
Marcelo joined Los Blancos back in 2007 and has been a crucial part of the team for years. However, the Brazilian wingback’s stay at the club could be coming to an end. There are suggestions of a reported falling out between Marcelo and new Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui. This could be the reason behind the player wanting a transfer.
While Marcelo is rumoured to be heading to Italy, Juventus’ highly rated left back Alex Sandro could be heading the other way round. Losing the Brazilian would be a big setback for Real Madrid and they will want to make sure that the right candidate replaces him at the club.
Alex Sandro, Marcelo’s compatriot, has all the abilities to be that person to fill the left back role. The 27-year-old has attracted interest from elite clubs from Europe and could be finally on the move soon.
AUTHOR’S TAKE:
Although Alex Sandro seems to be the replacement for Marcelo, the chances of the move happening immediately is low. The left back position has been occupied by the 30-year-old for years and replacing him would be a process that requires time and patience. Hence, the star won’t be let to move easily.
