Manchester United trounced Cardiff City 5-1 in Ole Gunnar’s first game as caretaker coach.
United sacked Jose Mourinho after the team lost to Liverpool 3-1 at Anfield. They appointed former player Ole Gunnar as their caretaker coach. His team defeated Cardiff City 5-1 in his first match as Red Devils manager, which has been conceived as a sign of good things to come.
It is being rumoured that Manchester United board will back Ole Gunnar to spend cash to sign players in January. However, Spanish website Ok Diario says they will let Ole Gunnar sign players on two conditions; Ole Gunnar can buy players if he sells players.
Numerous Manchester United players are linked with an exit from Old Trafford and Ole Gunnar can make use of this to get funds to sign players. Italian full-back Matteo Darmian recently admitted he is missing Italy. He said, “I must say, I really do miss Serie A and Italy now. I know that I am at one of the best clubs in the world and I am proud to be at Manchester United, but I do miss Italy. I love my country.” If clubs are interested in signing the 29-year-old, United and Ole Gunnar will be willing to sell the player, who has completely struggled this season.
22-year-old Andreas Pereria is likely to leave United after Brazilian outfit Santos confirmed their interest in signing the midfielder. Santos President Jose Carlos admitted that they are in talks with Pereria’s father over a possible deal.
Meanwhile, Ivorian International and Manchester United defender has also attracted the interests from different clubs. The 24-year-old centre-back, who can also play as a right-back is linked with a move to United’s rivals Arsenal.
Secondly, Ole Gunnar can sign players if they are free agents. However, it is unlikely United could get top-class players who could make the difference for them on free.
It remains to be seen what the board is planning to do in the January transfer window.
Manchester United already have a world-class squad. They need some reinforcements in defence. Defence has been their Achilles Heel this season and opponents have been exploiting it. Which all players will leave United? Who all will join United?
