The Manchester City gaffer has been linked to a return to Barcelona.
Manchester City’s summer transfer window has been busier regarding the future of Pep Guardiola than of any players joining the club. The former Bayern Munich boss was earlier linked to a move to Juventus. However, Guardiola himself revealed his desire to stay at Etihad Stadium.
Earlier this week, the Spaniard was linked to a shock return to Barcelona. Guardiola took the reins at Barcelona back in 2008 before standing down four years later. He was then named Bayern Munich boss in 2013 before standing down three years later. Finally, he took the Manchester City job in 2016.
Guardiola in a recent interview with Marc’s revealed he will return to Barcelona at some point of his life to live.
“I will return to Barcelona sooner or later. But as president, forget about it,” said Guardiola. “To be president, you have to know [what you’re doing] and be prepared; to have knowledge that I don’t have.
“I’m trying to be a good coach; that hasn’t gone too badly in this decade. I will return to Barcelona to live, sooner or later.”
Lionel Messi wasn’t present at the press conference where Guardiola announced his decision of leaving Barcelona but later spoke out about how difficult he found Guardiola leaving Barcelona.
“Because of the emotions I feel I preferred not to be present at Pep’s press conference and to stay away from the press because I know they will look for the pain on the players’ faces,” said Messi.
“It is something I decided not to show.”
Guardiola’s possible return to Barcelona will be something Messi would celebrate, but whether the 33-year-old will still be at the club by 2021 remains to be seen.
