India’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant tested positive for coronavirus pandemic of late. The 23-year-old was recently spotted attending Euros 2020 match on July 1.
The young wicketkeeper took to his social media handles and posted candid pictures. The pics featured Pant and his friends. While the pics went viral on the internet, fans came up with comments.
Pant spectated England vs Germany’s Euro Cup clash live at Wembley Stadium. England got the better of Germany by scoring 2-0. The likes of Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling netted a goal apiece.
Now Pant’s condition is not so good. He took a Covid-19 test nine days ago and he is asymptomatic. This means it’s more bad news to Virat Kohli-led Indian national cricket team.
The wicketkeeper will not travel with his teammates to Durham. The Indian players are set to play a practice game ahead of the five-match Test series against England. The first Test kicks off at Trent Bridge on August 4.
Meanwhile, Indian cricketers were given a 20-day long break after they played the ICC WTC final against New Zealand in Southampton. Kiwis won the inaugural edition of the Test championship by 8 wickets.
Jay Shah already warned the cricketers
Two Indian cricketers contracted the virus infection in England ahead of the Test series. As per the sources, one of them has returned a negative test. On the other hand, Pant has tested positive.
The wicketkeeper is currently in isolation till July 18. “Luckily, there is nothing to worry about as one of the players has already returned negative since testing positive, the other player will be tested on Sunday and is currently in isolation.
He is asymptomatic as well and we are confident that he can join the camp soon after negative reports,” the source said. The Indian players have returned from a 20-day break. In addition, the source said that regular testing has been done.
Now, all the other players are hale and healthy. Meanwhile, the team will assemble together on Thursday, July 15 in Durham to prepare for the 3-day practice game starting July 20. During the 20-day break, cricketers like Rishabh Pant attended Euro 2020 games. On the other hand, Ravichandran Ashwin spectated Wimbledon matches.
During the rising cases in the UK, BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah had already warned the players. Jay Shah had warned the players against attending other sporting events. BCCI Secretary, in his letter, told the cricketers to ignore crowded places as the Covishield vaccine only offers protection, not complete immunity against the virus.
Meanwhile, Team India will look forward to a great challenge up ahead. When England toured India, they managed to win the Test opener. However, Team India made a great comeback to win the next three games. India will give absolutely everything in the overseas conditions to get a better result.
