Indian cricketer and La Liga India’s ambassador Rohit Sharma traveled to Madrid to watch El Clasico
Star India Cricket Team opener Rohit Sharma is in Madrid with his wife Ritika and daughter Samaira to watch El Clasico. He is recovering from a calf injury as he witnesses the encounter between the two of the most fierce competitors. The match will be a massive one with the winner of the match going on to win the La Liga title.
The nicknamed ‘Hitman’ for his fearless batting in white-ball cricket, Rohit looked hyped up for the summit clash between the two league rivals. He announced his arrival in Madrid on Instagram sharing a photo of himself enjoying the scenic view of the Spanish capital. “In beautiful Madrid for #ElClasico @laliga,” Rohit wrote in the caption. Sharma is like any other fan of the Spanish top-flight footfall and highly looks up to the fixture.
Real Madrid will host La Liga leaders Barcelona at the iconic Santiago Bernabeu. Madrid currently sits on second in the table with 53 points from 25 games while Barcelona leads with 55 points. A win at their home for Los Blancos will put them on the top, one point ahead of their arch-rival. However, if Barca wins, they will be five points clear at the top.
Barca looking to consolidate their lead in the league
Real Madrid is going through a rough patch right now. They have won only once in their last five matches, against Osasuna in La Liga. In the other two matches during the period, they drew against relegation zoned Celta Vigo and lost 1-0 to Levante. They have dropped 5 points in the league, which led to Barcelona overtaking them. In the cup tournaments, they lost to Real Sociedad in Copa del Rey quarter-final. They lost again to Manchester City midweek in Champions League Round of 16 first leg at home. Understandably, morals would be low in the Madrid dressing room.
Barcelona comes to this match in a relatively better form. They have won their last three league games. Like Real Madrid, they lost in Copa del Rey quarter-finals to Atheltic Bilbao. In Champions League, they managed to salvage a hard-fought draw against an inspired Napoli side away from home. The Catalans have serious troubles in midfield with Busquets inconsistent and Rakitic does not impress.
