Reports suggest that Cristiano Ronaldo was livid with Zinedine Zidane over this star after the match with Atletico Madrid which ended in a draw.
La Liga giants Real Madrid were desperate to get a win against Atletico Madrid who are at the second spot in the points table. A win against Atletico would have guaranteed them the second spot behind their nemesis and arch-rivals Barcelona. But it was not to be as the match ended in a 1-1 draw, with both Cristiano Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann scoring for either side.
The 33-year-old, who scored a brilliant goal to put his team in front, was reportedly not happy with Zidane’s decision to bring Isco as a substitute in the 72nd minute. The Spain international has been great for his country but struggled for his club so far this season. However, the report by Spanish outlet Don Balon suggests that Ronaldo wanted him picked for the Atletico game from the start.
And when Zidane threw Isco on from the bench, the Real No 7 was not very happy about it. He supposedly feels Isco is a weaker asset when he comes as a substitute, compared to when he starts. Don Balon added that Ronaldo is also a huge admirer of Marco Asensio and thinks he could have had a bigger impact than his compatriot and team-mate.
There have been reports of some serious issues between Isco and Real Madrid in recent times and the Spanish star doesn’t seem OK with his role in the club. He could be looking for transfer this season to a team where he could get more game time.
Author’s Take :
Ronaldo’s agony shows the state of the team. They haven’t been up to the mark when Barcelona has been on song. They wanted to win the game desperately as the draw has put them on the fourth spot behind Valencia. If they’d have won the game, Ronaldo would have neglected Zidane’s move.
As far as Isco is concerned, it’s just a matter of time when the Spanish star leaves Santiago Bernabeu.
