On the eve of the launch of his new boots – Nike Mercurial Suprefly 5 CR7: Discovery, Cristiano Ronaldo said that he did not vote for his club coach Zindine Zidane as FIFA Coach of the year instead voted for his national team coach, Fernando Santos, as he feels it is much harder to win Euros than Champions League.
Zinedine Zidane replaced Rafa Benitez as the head coach of Real Madrid midway through the last season and led Los Blancos to their record 11th Champions League title. Fernando Santos also led an average Portuguese team captained by Cristiano Ronaldo to the Euros triumph and with the success that both the managers had last year, they both equally deserve the coveted prize.
The talismanic Portuguese explained the difficulty to the title triumph at Euros as the factor behind his vote to Fernando Santos.
He said, “In my opinion is it much more difficult to win the European Championship with Portugal than the Champions League.
‘It was a very difficult decision between my two managers and that is why I decided as I did. It has got nothing to do with my relationship (with Zidane). I have a good relationship`with both my coaches. I think in my shoes they would have voted the same.”
The 31 years old Ballon d’or nominee also spoke about his first, Sporting, before he faces them in the much awaited crucial Champions League tie.
‘I want to score [against them]. I always do. We drew the other day and so our fate is still not decided. We have to make mathematically certain and the result against Sporting is going to be very important.
‘It’s the same when I play against Manchester United. I always want to win and to score.’
Ronaldo also said that there won’t be anyone like him ever again. On being asked by a reporter that is there anyone he sees becoming the next Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portugese Captain said : ‘Nobody can be the next Cristiano Ronaldo. Doubles don’t exist. The next one will be what he needs to be but never the same. There are a lot of young talents in Europe.’
