SA vs IND LIVE: Team India are currently involved in the three-match ODI series against Proteas. The first ODI has been done and dusted. Proteas completely swept India under their carpet in the ODI series opener.
The first game took place at Boland Park, Paarl. Talking about the game, South Africa’s limited-overs captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and elected to open the face of the blade first.
Although the Indian pacers tried their best to keep the opposition silent, Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen had other ideas. The duo took the game away from the visitors with a sensational partnership.
Both the batters added a record 204-run partnership for the fourth wicket that is the highest in Boland Park. Both the batsmen scored a century apiece as Proteas steered to 296/4 in their quota of 50 overs.
KL Rahul who is leading the ODI team in Rohit Sharma’s absence had a bad day as a captain and batsman. He could score only 12 runs whereas Shikhar Dhawan top-scored with 79 off 84 balls including 10 boundaries.
Virat Kohli scored 51 off 63 balls including 3 boundaries. Apart from them, India didn’t get any support from the middle-order. Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer failed to turn up the ante when the team required them to perform.
SA vs IND LIVE: KL Rahul gives a cheeky response to the reporter at the presser
Shardul Thakur provided a glimmer of hope down the order. He scored his maiden ODI fifty but that was to no avail. Proteas’ bowlers chipped in with disciplinary bowling performance and won the game by 31 runs.
As a result, the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the series and are just a win away from winning the ODI series. Meanwhile, India’s stand-in captain KL Rahul made the headlines after he gave a superb reply to the reporter.
A journalist tried to provoke KL Rahul’s anger by reminding him of his poor captaincy record. Earlier, in the Test series, KL Rahul skippered the team in Virat Kohli’s absence for the second Test match at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
However, Team India went on to lose the second Test. Now, KL Rahul got off to a bad start as ODI captain as India lost the first ODI. The reporter also reminded KL Rahul of his IPL record as captain.
“Talking about your captaincy, your IPL record is not the greatest and the first time you lead India in Test, lost in Joburg, what do you think about that?” the journalist asked KL Rahul.
Meanwhile, Rahul didn’t lose cool one bit as he decided to give him a cheeky response to him. “Look, thanks for the stats, gives me a lot of confidence,” Rahul replied. Team India will take on Proteas in the second ODI at the same venue on January 21, Friday.
