The midfielder is not playing in his natural position but Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri believes this is his right position.
It seemed an exciting prospect when Sarri deployed Kante as a box to box player. However, defeat to Tottenham and Wolves have to lead to raise doubts about why Kante isn’t playing in his natural position. Kante is one of the world’s best central defensive midfielders. He doesn’t look good in going forward and Jorginho can easily be outclassed by pace and quick counter-attacking. However, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has given his final verdict on Kante’s position.
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has no plans to return N’Golo Kante to his former holding midfield role. The Chelsea boss has continued to dismiss criticism of the policy regarding the France World Cup winner. Kante helped Leicester City and the Blues to the Premier League title in successive seasons playing at the base of the midfield.
But Sarri has installed his trusted lieutenant Jorginho. Jorginho arrived at Stanford Bridge alongside the manager from Napoli, as a deep-lying playmaker this season with Kante pushed further forward. Jorginho badly exposed in the 3-1 defeat to Tottenham last month. However, Sarri is yet to be convinced to re-install Kante to his regular position.
Sarri ahead of the trip to Brighton on Sunday, “We have a squad for this kind of football. If you buy Jorginho and have [Cesc] Fabregas, then I think you have to play 4-3-3. “ He further said that in his style of football, midfield player is a technical player. Sarri further added, “If you play 4-3-3 in my style of football, then the central midfielder is a very technical player. Jorginho is very fast in the mind. He is able to play one touch or two touch. Fabregas also is technically really very good.”
Sarri added that he thinks Kante as a forward player. He said, “I think that Kante in my style of football has to play [further forward]. I can understand that somebody might think something different but if you think to my football, you have to say that I am right.”
We have seen what Kante can do in the game against Manchester City. In that game, one could see the Sarri-ball and Jorginho’s performance justified the reason why Sarri believes in him.
