Sarri’s Chelsea returned to winning ways in fashion as they ruthlessly trounced Huddersfield 5-0, courtesy of braces from Eden Hazard and Higuain and a goal from David Luiz.
Chelsea were humiliated by Bournemouth 4-0 in their previous Premier League fixture. It was the biggest defeat Chelsea since Sarri took over the reigns from Antonio Conte. However, a stunning display at home against bottom-dwellers Huddersfield has brought Chelsea back to winning ways.
Eden Hazard and Gonzalo Higuain starred for Chelsea and the both players bagged a brace, to the delight of Sarri, who had been, before the match, criticised for his tactics.
After the match, Sarri said Higuain is important for Eden Hazard. He, according to chelseafc.com, said, ‘I know very well when Higuain arrived he wasn’t at the top of his physical condition. Now he’s improving and I’m happy because apart from the goals he’s very suitable to play close to Eden. On the pitch they’re very suitable to play with one close to the other. For us it’s very useful to have Higuain because he will be able to score a lot of goals, but it’s also important for Eden.’
Sarri also said that his team needed consistency. He said, ‘I think we started very well in the first 25-30 minutes. I saw my football, we moved the ball very fast, we had good movements without the ball and we were very dangerous. I’m really very happy, we played well for 90 minutes and defended well for 90 minutes. We played a good match but we need consistency now.’
With this convincing victory, Chelsea returned to fourth in the points table, while Arsenal are fifth with one game in hand. Arsenal face Manchester City in what is a crucial must-win fixture for Emery’s and Pep’s side.
As Sarri said, Chelsea need to be consistent going forward. The way in which Hazard and Higuain played gives hope for the side but it remains to be seen if they can play consistently for the remaining part of the season. For now, this was a much-needed victory for Sarri and Chelsea.
