Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos scored his 100th goal for the club in their recent fixture against Inter Milan. Ramos scored another header to guide his club to a 3-2 victory at Santiago Bernabeu in their third Champions League match.
The 34-year-old central defender has been in great form in front considering he is not a forward player. He scored 11 league goals last season, also 2 in the Champions League campaign. He continued his goal-scoring form this year also with the latest goal being his third already.
Scoring headers is not only a contributing factor for him, his accuracy with spot-kicks and free-kicks has also helped to reach this milestone. He also has plenty of records to his name. At club level, he has featured in a record eight times for the UEFA Team of The Year, as a defender.
Ramos is currently the most capped player with 175 appearances for Spanish National Team. He has also scored 23 goals for Spain, makes him the eighth-highest goal-scorer.
Spanish outlet Marca recently runs out a poll on the best-ever defender on their website. Real Madrid fans took no time to contribute to it, ranking Ramos 74% votes.
Germany legend Frank Beckenbauer ranked 2nd with 18% votes and Italian great Franco Baresi 3rd with just 4% votes. Ronald Koeman, Bobby Moore, Marcel Desailly, Daniel Passarella, Matthias Sammer, and Fabio Cannavaro were also listed in the poll.
But there are plenty of things to consider in this poll list and result before you start a debate. First of all, this poll was taken by Marca, which is a Real Madrid linked website. There were also key absentees in that list to rank Ramos with others, most notably Paolo Maldini.
We will be now ranking Ramos with other best-ever defenders on the basis of GOAT, Legends, Era-defining, and Quality. This is purely an opinion article, not a verdict on great defenders.
Sergio Ramos ranked with Greatest of All Time(GOAT) defenders:
Paolo Maldini, Franco Baresi, and Franz Beckenbauer top this list as not only the greatest defenders but also as players. Sergio Ramos doesn’t make this category yet despite winning everything.

He also won World Cup with Italy in 1982, named Milan’s player of the century, which is a very big achievement.
Germany and Bayern Munich legend Franz Beckenbauer is the last player in this list, not a second to Maldini and Baresi. Nicknamed The Emperor, has won World Cup twice as a player and manager.
