Juventus have always been renowned for their quality midfielders. The Bianconeri have been masters at getting bargain deals for world-class players. The likes of Arturo Vidal, Andrea Pirlo, Paul Pogba are all examples of excellent recruitment on their behalf. They’ve been able to cope with the loss of big players and replaced them with even more effective players. The signing of Gonzalo Higuain showed that they’re not afraid to spend money either. To that end, the Old Lady tried to bring Liverpool’s Emre Can to the Serie A. However, their pursuit was ultimately a failure.
The Bianconeri’s CEO Giuseppe Marotta has now confirmed that the club won’t be pursuing the German international. His contract expires at the end of the season with the Reds. This means that, if he doesn’t extend his contract, Jurgen Klopp will be forced to sell him at a low price. However, for now, it looks as though Can will remain at Anfield.
Marotta denies January approach for Can
It was reported in the summer that the former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder was close to leaving Anfield. His long-term future still hangs in the air and Juventus aimed to take advantage of his situation. The Bianconeri made an offer for him which was close to a fee of around 23million pounds. However, the negotiations were unsuccessful and Can was still a Liverpool player after deadline day.
Marotta has now confirmed that Juventus won’t be going after Can in the upcoming transfer window. The Italian spoke with Premium Sport about any potential transfers in the January window. He said,”We don’t think we are going to make a big signing in January.”
Marotta believes Liverpool won’t sell now
Speaking on the squad depth at Juventus, the Juventus CEO feels they have enough competition within their ranks.
He said,”Our team is absolutely competitive and we have some very interesting midfielders like [Rodrigo] Bentancur who has already shown his qualities”.
Marotta underlines the fact that Juventus have “faith in the team” and in the young “lads” in the squad.

He further spoke about the possibility of going back for the German Reds midfielder. As for Emre Can, I don’t think Liverpool will sell him in January.”, He said.
Further stating,”We made an offer for him in the summer but the Reds didn’t sell him so I don’t think they’ll change their mind in the middle of the season.”
Juventus may be making a mistake in not taking advantage of Can’s situation. Other clubs should be alerted to the German’s contract situation with the Reds. Negotiations thus far have failed to progress and it looks increasingly likely that he will move at the end of the season. It is now up to Liverpool whether to keep their midfield engine man or to cash in on him before it’s too late.
