Manchester United have been dealt with a huge transfer blow, with Atletico Madrid hitman Antonie Griezmann closing on a move to Barcelona.
Antonie Griezmann was identified as Manchester United’s number one transfer target back in summer. But despite the club’s effort to bring the player to Manchester, the strike stayed in Spain after Atletico Madrid were handed a transfer ban by FIFA. Back in summer, United signed Lukaku and in January they signed Alexis Sanchez, eventually reducing their interest in Griezmann, which handed the upper hand advantage to Barcelona.
Manchester United Have Been Dealt With A Huge Transfer Blow As Barcelona Closes On Their Long Time Target Antonie Griezmann.
But with the Catalan Giants look forward to bolstering of there squad for the upcoming competitions, things are now going their way. As Manchester United are all set to miss on him for the second consecutive year, Barcelona is ready to pounce as early this summer. Earlier it was said that Barcelona will have to pay around £175 Million for the Frenchmen.
But according to some reports, his release clause has dropped from £175 Million to £100 Million, which should help facilitate his move to Barcelona, where he’ll join Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho.
Barcelona has been pretty rampant in the transfer market of late. Including the £80 Million signing bonus Lionel Messi received for signing a new contract, Barcelona has now spent close to £350 Million in last one year on transfers. The amount is spent on forwards alone as they spent £135.5m for bringing Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund and £108 Million + signing bonuses for bringing Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool.
The Frenchmen has been in a phenomenal form this season, scoring and creating 18 goals for Los Rojiblancos as they hunt Barcelona for the domestic title. Atletico Madrid is currently second in the points table with 58 points from 25 games, seven points behind the league leaders Barcelona. Antonie Griezmann will be back in action on Thursday when Atletico Madrid takes on Leganes as they continue to fight for the domestic honor.
I feel the player will be doing a right thing by committing his future with Barcelona. His arrival at Barcelona will give Ernesto Valverde a greater range of options in attack. Griezmann will give Valverde a variety of options to utilize him correctly. Let’s see what future holds for the player.
