German giants Bayern Munich are believed to be considering a move for Barcelona’s second-choice goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the German giants have been watching the Dutchman in his Copa del Rey outings. It is said that the Bavarians have developed their interest in the Dutch goalkeeper but it entirely depends upon how Manuel Neuer recovers from his injury that whether they will move for him or not.
Manuel Neuer was recently granted a short break in a warmer climate to continue his recovery from a foot injury that has ruled him out for more than half of the 2017/18 season. However, there is a fair amount of worries surrounding their first choice goalkeeper’s injury.
In a statement on Friday, Bayern said: “Captain Neuer will instead take a short holiday after consulting the German record champions’ medical unit. The 31-year-old will spend his time in warmer climes until 18 February. Neuer has been assigned individual training plans to continue his rehab on a daily basis.”
Jasper Cillessen left Ajax for Barcelona in 2016 but has played second fiddle to first-choice goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen. It was said that Barcelona was interested in Catalans first-choice goalkeeper Marc-Andfé Ter Stegen, but they were pulled off by his €170 million release clause. However, Cillessen would be a much cheaper alternative for the Germans with his release clause set at only €60 million.
Actually, it was not only Stegen’s release clause which stopped Bayern from making a move for him. It is said that Ter Stegen is happy with his status at Barcelona and isn’t interested in making move to any other club at the moment. Cillessen, however, could possibly leave the Camp Nou for more playing time.

Meanwhile, Neuer is hoping to return to action by the end of the current season. When quizzed about when he is returning to action, Neuer said: “There is no specific date. We have to play it safe now and wait and see how my body handles the next few steps. But I am very optimistic and I know I will play in the second half of the season. I have to say I’m doing very well. I think my foot is doing very well too.”
Jasper Cillessen is surely a world-class talent that will improve any squad with his game.
Jasper Cillessen would be a good fit at Bayern Munich, given Manuel Neuer’s long-term injury. The Dutchman’s cat-like reflexes will surely benefit Bayern. Let’s see what future holds for the Dutchman.
