According to Don Balon, Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi has reportedly urged his club’s board to consider a move for Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio.
Leo Messi is closely watching the downfall Real Madrid is experiencing in recent months, and believes that the right time has arrived to shock Real Madrid furthermore. The Argentine wizard has been impressed with Asensio’s performances at Santiago Bernabeu this season. The talisman has told the Barça hierarchy to go all out for the Spaniard.
The 22-year-old attacker is considered one of Spain’s biggest hopes for the future but his lack of game time at Bernabeu has convinced Messi that Barça can swoop the Spaniard away from their arch-rivals. The Spanish publications also suggested that losing Asensio would be a major blow to Zinedine Zidane. Los Blancos are 19 points behind their arch-rivals Barça in the league.
Zidane is under pressure to win some silverware, but the domestic honor looks unlikely as they are already knocked out of the Copa del Rey and La Liga looks impossible as they are 19 points behind the leaders. Los Blancos have endured a torrid season under Zidane, with European champions sitting fourth in the La Liga even after their mesmerizing win at the Mestalla.
Pressure has continued to increase particularly after shocking Copa del Rey defeat to Leganes. The Frenchmen also admitted that his job will be at risk if Madrid loses to Paris Saint-Germain in Champions League’s last 16 ties. When quizzed about Real Madrid’s dip in form, Zidane said: “A lot of times it comes down to your mentality, not your fitness. We’re suffering more mentally than physically.”
And now with Barcelona plotting a move for Asensio, it looks like it will be a final nail in the coffin of Zinedine Zidane’s managerial career at Real Madrid. It is said that Messi also has other reasons to bring the Spaniard and it is ‘revenge’. The Argentine is reportedly upset with Madrid’s pursuit of former Barcelona and current Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar, who just left Barca last summer and is still close with Messi.
Of course, the operation to bring the Spaniard to Camp Nou looks impossible. Asensio recently renewed his contract with a release clause of €500 Million and this is the reason why the deals look impossible. However, if the move really happens then the Spaniard has a lot to offer to Barcelona.
