Reds forward Xherdan Shaqiri has revealed that he deserves more respect because of the trophies that he won before being relegated with Stoke City.
Having arrived at Anfield in the summer transfer window from relegated side Stoke City, £13 million for Swiss superstar Xherdan Shaqiri would be considered as one of the bargains of the season. The 27-year-old has looked impressive in the limited game time that Jurgen Klopp has given him so far so early in the season.
However, the former Stoke City star was slammed for his outings last season with the Potters where his performances were far from professional. It was not all Shaqiri’s fault that Stoke City got relegated to the second division but the star winger wants to be remembered for his high-quality time before his move to the English League where he won plenty of titles.
Shaqiri Demands Respect-
While speaking to reporters, the Liverpool winger stated that he is unhappy about the fact his former suitors were relegated to the Championship but people should not forget that he was once a Champions League winner, “Being relegated with Stoke was a very bad experience for the club and for me and I hope they can come back quickly. But despite what happened there, I am a Champions League winner. I think that deserves respect. People should remember where I played before, the qualities I have, and what I have achieved in the game.”
Shaqiri went on to explain that he does not feel the pressure of playing at Liverpool because he has played at top clubs before, “I played for one of the biggest teams in the world in Munich and again I am playing for one of the big clubs. So I don’t feel any pressure from the Liverpool shirt.”
In his mixed career, Shaqiri has managed to win two Bundesliga titles, two German Cups and the Champions League in 2013 with Bavarian giants Bayern Munich. Shaqiri also notched up the Swiss title with Basel.
I think respect is earned and not demanded therefore Shaqiri has to keep on proving himself time and again now to the Liverpool fans. Hopefully, he will be able to win some silverware with Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.
