The player has been linked with Real Madrid in past.
Fernandinho will be 34 by the start of next season, while David Silva will turn 34 midway through the 2019/20 season. Two of City’s most important midfielders are gradually coming towards the end. A long-term replacement for 33-year-old Fernandinho has long been top of City’s transfer wishlist and that will be the case again in the next window. With Ilkay Gundoogan not comitting his future at the blue half of Manchester, it seems Guardiola might have a worrisome summer. Guardiola will want to know what Gundogan is planning to do by the time the next transfer window swings open. City are already looking at whom to sign next season. It seems Manchester City have made the initial to sign Chelsea star and Real Madrid target.
Manchester City have made an initial approach to sign N’Golo Kante from Chelsea, according to reports. Kante has established himself as one of the world’s best defensive midfielders having won the Premier League title with both Leicester City and Chelsea, while he also played a key part in France’s World Cup success last summer. But under Maurizio Sarri this season, Kante has been ousted from his favoured role at the heart of Chelsea’s midfield to accommodate Jorginho, who moved to Stamford Bridge in a £57 million deal from Napoli last July. City have been monitoring Kante’s situation at Chelsea and have requested intermediaries to keep them up to date if the midfielder becomes unhappy at the club.
The Blues are clearly not the finished article, with reinforcement desperately needed at the heart of midfield, with Fernandinho turning 34 in May.
City have prioritised that position in the last three transfer windows but have been thwarted in bids for Jorginho, Fred and Frenkie De Jong. They are narrowing their options for this summer, with Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez, West Ham’s Declan Rice, Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele, Wolves’ Ruben Neves and Schalke’s Sebastien Rudy all getting favourable scouting reports.
Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano also earlier claimed there will be “some exciting new players” arriving at the club this summer. Kante committed to a new five-year contract with Chelsea back in November, and that deal suggests that he will be going nowhere any time soon. The west Londoners are also about to be stung with a two-window transfer ban, with it being claimed that no sales will be sanctioned by the Blues until they are back in a position to be able to bolster their ranks .
It would indeed be a shocking move if City try to lure Kante. Kante may play in the same position as Fernandinho but the Frenchmen can’t dictate the tempo of the play or be the focal point of counter attack like the Brazilian. Also with Kante signing a new contract and an inevitable transfer ban for the West Londoners, Chelsea will be reluctant to let Kante go.
