Manchester United is sitting at the top of the Premier League table with 40 points in 19 games. Manchester City is breathing below their neck with 38 points in 18 games.
In fact, the competition at the top of the table is too close! The top 5 teams are separated by just 5 points. The season is turning out to be one of the most hotly contested Premier League seasons as we are witnessing a new league leader every weekend.
Manchester United’s brilliant performances have been due to the consistency found by their players on the field. Luke Shaw, Edinson Cavani, Scott McTominay, Bailly, Maguire, and others have improved their game at the right time.
Paul Pogba, the 27-year old midfielder has been in terrific form for the last 8 weeks. Solskjaer has played Pogba at different positions in this period. From left-wing, centre-midfield to right-wing, Pogba has been deployed at every spot. This is because the manager already has Bruno Fernandes at the number 10 spot who is indispensable.

Even after playing out of his natural position, Pogba has done exceptionally well all this while. He scored a match-winning goal against Burnley and Fulham each. Thus, helping United to win six points to stay at the top of the table.
Pogba’s contract is set to expire by the end of the next season. Thus, it is quite natural to say that the United board is already thinking about whether to offer him a new contract or cash-in on the player in the upcoming summer window.
The decision when to start the extension talks will be very vital for the team. This could possibly be the highlight of United’s next summer window.
Pogba contract extension talks halted by Manchester United?
Maybe for the first time, Paul Pogba is playing very well on a consistent basis. Before this patch, he was a player who would be a superstar on day 1 and below average on day 2. Pogba failed to find any consistency throughout his career at Old Trafford.
Things finally seem to be changing. He looks to be a leader on and off the pitch. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Harry Maguire have already mentioned how highly he is being looked at in the locker room.
So should the Manchester United board get into the contract extension talks with Pogba agent, Mino Raiola? We believe that the best thing for the board is to wait till this season gets over and get into the talks of an extension only in June.
The Red Devils are in a fine run of form but are yet to win anything this season. They have Premier League, Europa League, and FA Cup to concentrate on. Any diversion of concentration for a player like Paul Pogba could lead to a dip in his performance level. That’s the last thing Solskjaer would want right now.
The summer transfer window is generally a long one. The board will have almost two months to negotiate the deal with Paul and his agent. If they don’t agree to an extension, they can always cash on him because a player like Pogba will always find suitors.
