Football legend Diego Maradona got lifted to a high pedestal when he accepted the offer to play ambassador for the governing body of world football, the FIFA.
Maradona is happy to receive the title and discloses the matter delightedly on Facebook,
“Now it’s official. Finally, I can fulfil one of the lifelong dreams; to work for a clean and transparent FIFA alongside people who really love football.”
The 56-year-old forward always had a great detest for the former FIFA president Sep Blatter, and since this man is no more involved with the FIFA, Maradona finds his job in presence of new president Gianni Infantino enticing. It’s worth recalling that Blatter has been accused of embezzlement and corruption and so could not continue
Flashbacks of Maradona’s career shows that he has scored 34 goals out of 90 appearances for his Argentina and has so far been honoured with a magnificent number of 91 caps. He has played for many clubs like Barcelona, Sevilla, Boca Juniors and Napoli in his long dignified career.Talking about his role as ambassador, he’ll be having ‘relevant development projects’ as FIFA stated on Friday.
As by the news that arrived a fortnight back, the retired footballer was also going to attain the same responsibility of a global ambassador for his former Italian club Napoli to which he dedicated his seven long years. But the matter was not propagated further as he allegedly owed €40 m to the Italian authorities as back taxes.
There remains an uncertainty over this Napoli matter, but the 1986 world cup winner is now embellished as the ambassador of FIFA.
