Solskjaer to hold talks over £45m Serie A target!

Ed Woodward is willing to get Solskjaer a long term defensive target.

It was a secret open that Jose wanted the backing of the board to sign a centre back. The porous defense played a role in having United’s worst start in Premier League in 30 years. Ed Woodward also seems to be concerned by the leaky back four of Manchester United. It seems new caretaking boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to hold talks over £45m Serie A target.

Manchester United are looking to sign a central defender and as per reports going on in the media, the club could move to sign Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina this month. The 21-year-old player has been linked with the Old Trafford club for quite some time. Even former boss Jose Mourinho wanted to sign him. Now, according to an exclusive story covered by The Sun, Ed Woodward, is willing to invest for the right deals to strengthen the team and interim boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is set to hold talks with the Man Utd chief over the signing of the Serbian.

The towering center half broke into Fiorentina’s first team in the second half of the last campaign. Now he is the leader of their back-line. Moreover, due to his 6 ft 4 height, he is a major threat in the attacking third as well. In the current campaign, the former Partizan defender has played 18 league games for the Florence based club. He has scored 2 goals. He has already made 10 appearances for the senior national side. His performances has led to many big clubs wanting his signatures. Solskjaer needs a leader in his defensive setup, someone who could command the fellow defenders and put inconsistent performances. Milenkovic perfectly fits the bill but he is not going to come for cheap. His current contract with Fiorentina will expire in 2022 and is valued at  £50million  by the club’s president.

Author’s Take:

It seems if United sanction a deal for the Serbian a move would be possible. Milenkovic seems to tick every requirement of United’s need for a centre back. Also, he’s 21 and is yet to hit the prime of his age so a move to Old Trafford will be perfect for the Serbian.
