An unhappy fellow… Spaniard regrets his move to Stamford Bridge

Former Barcelona star Pedro has expressed regret over his move to Chelsea

A lifelong Barcelona fan, Pedro moved to the Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2015. With growing concerns over his game time after Neymar’s arrival, Pedro felt it was a time for a change in his career. Several Premier League clubs expressed interest in the then 28-year-old. Manchester United led the queue but Pedro’s hesitancy over a move to Old Trafford afforded an opportunity to Chelsea to swoop in.

Pedro

It’s been over two years since Pedro left Barcelona for Stamford Bridge

Pedro moved for a fee of £24.3 million when he seemingly shouldn’t have. Chelsea’s visit to the Camp Nou in the Champions League encounter led to the World Cup winner making a startling admission to his former teammates. According to Mundo Deportivo, Pedro ‘confessed’ to Barca players ”What I would give to be in the locker room”, and also said ”What I would give to be here”.

A part of Guardiola’s all-conquering Barca side, the player’s time at Camp Nou did not exactly end in acrimony. However, it is unlikely that the Catalans would now show any interest in bringing back their former star.

Mundo Deportivo’s report also goes on to say that Barcelona, the city and the club, has a special place in the player’s heart. While he is happy in London, Chelsea can never be as close to his heart as Barca was.

Pedro
The 30-year-old had a trophy-laden spell with the Catalan giants

Pedro has been used regularly by Conte this season, making 40 appearances in all competitions. But almost a third of those have come from the bench. Meanwhile, his return of 7 goals and 4 assists has not exactly set the world alight either. He has not been able to cement a regular spot in the first eleven and his Chelsea career has certainly not turned out to be as expected.

Author’s Take

Pedro’s love for his hometown club is understandable. He spent his entire career at Barcelona and won many trophies.  He moved to Chelsea in search of game time but the results have not been as expected. Though he can surely turn it around if he puts his head down and continues working hard for the Blues.
