Tottenham Hotspur take on Leicester city at Wembley later today as they aim to keep up pace with Liverpool and Manchester city at the top of the table
A victory tonight will lift Spurs to within 2 points of Manchester city and within 5 of leaders Liverpool. As of now, Liverpool lead the charts with 65 points from 62 games, and City are second with 62 points from 26 games. Spurs, meanwhile, are third with 57 points, but do have a game in hand. The title race has been considered a two horse race for the entirety of the season, but Spurs have done wonderfully well to be in the mix for so long. And what’s been most impressive is the fact that they haven’t let the momentum drop despite injuries to many key players.
Spurs’ French midfielder Moussa Sissoko, who was considered a flop when he first joined them for 30 million pounds from Newcastle, has become one of their midfield mainstays. He was won over not only Mauricio Pochettino, but also the Spurs faithful with his work rate and versatility. And while speaking about Spurs’ title chances this season, the 29 year old insisted that they are very much in contention even if people didn’t want to admit that,
“We are not far,” he told The Telegraph. “If people want to talk about Liverpool and Man City then it’s better for us. We can follow our way in… how can I say it in English?”
“Ah, yeah, we will be like that,” the Frenchman agreed after being asked if Spurs are flying under the radar.
“Under the radar, I like that – and try to win and see where we are. For me, I prefer that. It means we can just do our job. We will fight to the end and anything can happen.
“And yes, I think we can win the league because we have a good team.”
However, his comments didn’t go down very well with the Spurs’ fans.
Spurs have done brilliantly so far, and who knows, this might very well be their season if they are able to continue the good work.
