Reports have revealed that SRH are holding talks with the team for the transfer after getting to know that the player is unhappy with his stay.
The IPL transfer window is currently open and will be so for about a week. Meanwhile, many big news of players being bartered are coming up. Recently we oversaw the exchange of RCB’s wicket keeper Quinton De Kick with MI’s bowlers Akila Dhananjaya and Mustafizur Rahman. We are soon expecting another big transfer of IPL 2019.
India’s opening batsman known for his attacking approach, Shikhar Dhawan is reported to be unhappy with his current team, Sunrisers Hyderabad and is desirous of playing for his former team, Mumbai Indians. Dhawan was a part of Mumbai Indians for the years 2009 and 2010 and was then inducted into the currently defunct team, Deccan Chargers.
It is heard that the reason for such a possible transfer is the cricketer’s dissatisfaction with the franchise and team. Dhawan has been unhappy for his lower pay from his franchise as compared to other players despite being one of the top batsmen in the world. His conflict with the head coach, Tom Moody also aggravates the problem and has opened doors for his transfer.
Dhawan wished to be retained by the side during the auction of 2018 as no.1 or no. 2 player which could have boosted his pay to 10-12 crore. However he was retained by the side using the “Right to match” card when his price at the auction was only 5.2 crores.
His other counterparts of the national team have exceedingly higher earnings from their franchises in the IPL. Virat Kohli leads the list of such with a whopping 17 crores, followed by Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni with 15 crores. And to make things worse, young and inexperienced players such as Jaydev Unadkat and Krunal Pandya have higher earnings in comparison to him as well.
Meanwhile, SRH also don’t feel like keeping unhappy players in their camp. Although Dhawan’s contract with the team is for three years, yet they could release him well before that if that is what the wish of the batsman is. One of the officials has also revealed the news of their negotiations with Mumbai Indians regarding the transfer.
“That’s right. If we get a couple of good players as a trade-off, we’re open to it.”
If this proposed transfer is confirmed then it would indeed be a huge success for the Mumbai Indians. A deadly combination of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan could soon be seen as the opening pair that can incite fear in the minds of the opposition’s bowlers.
The left handed batsman has been the leading run getter for SRH ever since his inception into the team in 2013. His IPL career stands at 4058 runs in just 143 games with a handsome average of 33 and equally good strike rate of 137.
The SRH fans would indeed be disappointed if the news of such transfer is confirmed. On the other hand, it would be like an icing on the cake for the MI fans having the likes of both Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan into their side. With no confirmation yet, it would be exciting to see the outcome.
