The injury update comes as worrying news for Chelsea who are set to play against Arsenal in the UEFA Europa League final.
Ahead of the much anticipated UEFA Europa League final, Chelsea have been given a blow as star midfielder N’Golo Kante could miss the game due to a knee injury.
The French midfielder endured a knee injury during Chelsea’s training session on Saturday. Although official updates have not been made, it is rumoured that the player might not be able to fit to feature for the West Londoners against Arsenal in the high-profile final.
Kante had returned to training only recently after suffering from a injury during a Premier League clash against Watford. This latest update comes as a heavy blow for Chelsea and Sarri, whose options at midfield would be limited.
Chelsea finished the Premier League in the third position and qualified for the UEFA Champions League after a year-long hiatus.
For Arsenal, Chelsea’s opponents in the UEFA Europa League final in Baku, a win is needed to ensure they play Champions League next season. Winning it would also be a big achievement for Unai Emery, who replaced Arsene Wenger at the helm of the club at the start of this season.
If Kante is ruled out for the clash against Arsenal, he would become the fourth man unavailable for the fixture.
The final gives Sarri a chance to silence his doubters. Although his tenure at Chelsea started brightly, he has been heavily criticized by fans for his style. It has even been speculated that Sarri will leave the club at the end of the season with former player Frank Lampard becoming the new coach.
Injury to N’Golo Kante could not have come at a worse situation. He is one of the crucial players at Chelsea and his presence would be much-needed for Chelsea. If he fails to be fit in time for the trip to Baku, it would limit Sarri’s options in the midfield, thus weakening the squad.
Do you think Kante would be fit to play for Chelsea in the final?
