Pressure is mounting but Liverpool must soak up if they are to win the coveted English Premier League.
Favourites to win the English Premier League this season, Liverpool take on West Ham in their next fixture. The Reds are five points clear of nearest rivals Manchester City and must keep securing maximum points in order to win the title.
Ahead of their crucial match against West Ham, Liverpool are set to play without their Croatian International defender Dejan Lovren, who has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring issue whilst playing against Wolves in the FA Cup.
His absence does not come as a big blow for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, given Virgil Van Dijk and Joel Matip are to continue adorning the centre-back role. However, his exclusion from the squad will cut short options for Klopp.
Earlier the former Borussia Dortmund gaffer revealed that Joe Gomez may require a surgery, while Trent Alexander-Arnold is suffering from an issue. Liverpool will be hoping that their injuries to defenders do not come to haunt them.
West Ham are currently twelfth in the points table and lost their previous fixture to Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0. While Pellegrini and co will be looking to return to winning ways, their opponents on Sunday will hope that the pressure doesn’t get the better of the team.
Liverpool had drawn against Leicester City 1-1 in a game where a victory would have ensured them a seven-point lead. An early goal from Sadio Mane had given the fans expectations that the Reds would demolish Leicester City, en route to their most-anticipated title victory, but a late first half goal from Harry Maguire restored parity.
Even though Lovren’s absence doesn’t affect Klopp’s plans on starting lineup, it takes away an option at defence for Klopp. Against West Ham, the the table leaders will not want to replicate mistakes they exhibited against Leicester City. Meanwhile West Ham were convincingly beaten by Wolverhampton in their previous game and what Liverpool must do is to pile on their misery. Will Liverpool register another victory or will they stumble under pressure? Only time will tell.
