Star player all set to make Barcelona debut today

Philippe Coutinho and Yerry Mina are in line for Barcelona debuts in Copa del Rey clash with Espanyol.

Philippe Coutinho and Yerry Mina are in line to make their Barcelona debuts in the second leg of the quarter-finals of Copa del Rey against Espanyol after the new recruits were included in the 19 man squad to face Espanyol. Barcelona finally bought an end to one of the biggest transfer sagas of all time after agreeing to pay a club record fees of £142 Million for the Brazil international. The transfer also broke the record for the highest fee ever received by an English team.

While on the other hand, Barcelona completed the signing of the latest prodigy of Colombian football for just under £12 Million from Palmeiras on 11 January to fill the void left by the departure of Javier Mascherano to Hebei China Fortune.

However, the gems of the South American football have been unable to make their debut for the Spanish Giants. A thigh injury sustained prior to his move kept Coutinho out of action for three weeks. And now the time has arrived to see him in action as he is included in the squad list. While on the other hand, Yerry Mina has not been named in a single matchday squad as Valverde believes that the Colombian will need some time to adapt to European football.

But both the players will have a chance to prove themselves in the Copa del Rey clash against Espanyol. Andres Iniesta and Paco Alcacer are also back in the squad after having recovered from their respective muscle injuries. However, Valverde will be without Thomas Vermaelen and Ousmane Dembele as they recover from their respective injuries. Gerard Deulofeu and Denis Suarez are also left out of the squad after rumours suggesting that they are on their way out of the club.

Valverde now hopes that the Camp Nou support can help his side overcome the one-goal deficit. When quizzed about how Barcelona will overcome the deficit, Valverde said: “We know that we are behind on aggregate and it’s do or die, but we have the advantage of playing at home in the second leg and we hope the fans can spur us on. This derby has special motivation because we have to come from behind. The cup is a competition that excites us.”
