Chelsea star reveals biggest hurdle in the Barcelona line-up

Ahead of their clash against FC Barcelona in the first knockout round of the Champions League, Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has revealed that the side won’t be able to stop Lionel Messi despite the Argentine’s dismal record against the Blues.

Morata claims that Lionel Messi cannot be written off on the basis of his history with Chelsea. He believes that Chelsea should play a defensive game if they need to get into the quarter-finals of Europe’s most prestigious competition.

Despite facing Chelsea eight times in his career, Messi has failed to net a single goal against them with 29 shots attempted. Barcelona is having a great run under Ernesto Valverde as they find themselves in the top position in the La Liga table by quite a distance.

Morata feels Messi is unstoppable

Morata was interviewed by Movistar+ where he talked about Messi and Chelsea’s approach for the upcoming clash against the La Liga giants. He said:

“Messi can’t be stopped, if we can get a good result here, we have to play a defensive game with spaces and try to bother them as much as possible.”

Chelsea head into the clash with several concerns including manager Antonio Conte’s job being on the line. The manager has come under the scanner after repeated rows with the board over transfer policies and undesirable results as of late.

Morata, on the other hand, was sidelined with a back injury and made his return as a substitute in the Blues 3-0 resounding win over West Brom and is expected to start in the clash against the Catalans.

Author’s Take:

The two legs against Barcelona will define Chelsea’s season in a way with the Champions League and the FA Cup being the only silverware hopes left. The Blues will have to orchestrate a masterclass to keep Barcelona off the bay to secure their place in the quarterfinals. Messi will look to shake off his rust against Chelsea and score a goal to overcome a dab in otherwise a spotless career.
