Diego Costa had to double up his goal tally against Swansea to save Chelsea from a defeat at Liberty stadium. After having the control of the game and leading 1-0 at halftime, a Thiabut Courtois error leading to penalty and then a horrendous back-pass from Gary Cahill helped Swansea to put past two goals and lead 2-1, but Diego Costa came to Chelsea’s rescue again as he hit the equalizer.
Chelsea had a good first half, dominating possession and having an attacking authority of the game. Eden Hazard looked to continue his great as he was making it all happen for Chelsea.
We look at the ratings for Chelsea players in their 2-2 draw against Swansea.
Thiabut Courtois – 4.5/10
Thibaut Courtois was hardly tested but then made a horrible error by getting caught short in the challenge on Sigurdsson for a penalty. Heart in mouth from there on. Was booked too.
Branislav Ivanovic – 6/10
Held is ground well defensively, also made some good forward runs to provide the impetus for Chelsea’s equaliser.
Gary Cahill – 5/10
Hesitant and caught in possession by Fer for second goal, though he was fouled, as Chelsea’s defence came apart at the seams.
John Terry – 7/10
Kept Llorente well wrapped up and at the bay but was let down by his team-mates’ mistakes for the two goals. Booked for a reckless challenge later on in the game.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 6/10
Most of Swansea’s attacks were on his side but he stood his ground well and was really astute defensively.
N’Golo Kante – 8/10
Absolutely brilliant breaker of play, former Leicester star was everywhere in the first half and only real error was losing Fer for a late chance.
Willian – 7/10
Real drive down the right early on and helped to drag Swansea’s backline around but he faded later on as Swansea took the lead.
Nemanja Matic – 7.5/10 Back to being a force in midfield once again after horror show of last season. Aerially dominant.
Oscar – 7/10
So evasive between the lines, left Cork chasing shadows and set up Costa for the first-half opener before key role in second. Created chances for Chelsea most of the attempts on goal.
Eden Hazard – 8/10
Back on form, he has the ability to transform Conte’s team. Glided past Naughton frequently but no end product on this occasion. Had great chance to increase the lead for Chelsea but squandered it.
Diego Costa – 8.5/10
At his combative best at times. Fantastic first-time finish to open the scoring and then great acrobatic strike. Booked — of course.
Substitutes –
Cesc Fabregas – 5/10
Came on for Matic and brought on to control the play for Chelsea in closing stages but by that time it was frantic and to make something happen but hardly had any impact.
Victor Moses – 5/10
Brought on to change the speed of the game but could not offer much more than Willian although his play was tidy.
Michy Batshuayi – N/A
No time to make an impact.
