Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy 2021: One of the most popular cricket tournaments in the country, Syed Mushtaq Ali is underway. The tournament is on the verge of completion as the semi-finals just concluded. We have our finalists for 2021-22 as Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. They would lock horns to seal the title on Monday.
We saw an emerging player in the second semifinal played between Vidarbha and Karnataka. Karnataka held its nerves till the very end and emerged victoriously. Vidarbha put in everything but unfortunately, it was not their day in the office.
A nail-biting encounter came to an end with Karnataka winning the match by 04 runs. However, Vidarbha would be definitely proud of its bowler, Darshan Nalkande. His brilliant death over bowling sure did restrict Karnataka from posting a par score.
Karnataka was 175 for the loss of only 03 wickets until the beginning of the 20th over. While they were heading off to a doubleton, Vidarbha’s skipper bought Darshan Nalkande into the attack.
Little did anyone know what was in store for the final over. The first ball was a slower one to Aniruddha Joshi who swung and missed. Apparently, it was well enough to deceive the batsman who looked to go hard after the ball.
Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy 2021: Darshan Nalkande achieves a rare feat in the match
The series of destruction started from the second delivery. Darshan continued with the slower delivery and this time got the better off him. Joshi gave a simple catch to the fielder at short fine leg. Sharath BR was the new man at the crease. Abhinav Manohar, the destructive man on the runner’s end ran hard but unfortunately would not face the ball.
Darshan decided to continue with the same slower ball and it did the trick yet again. Sharath walked across and decided to push it over short fine but mistimed it. The inside edge went flying to the keeper who ensured no mistake. 2 in 2.
Abhinav Manohar looked helpless on the other end as he was not able to get the strike. He had already hammered 27 runs in just 12 deliveries and he wanted to take his team across 200. Jagadeesh Suchith came in to face the hattrick delivery from Darshan.
Another slower bumper from the bowler and Suchith gets lured to mistime the pull shot. He eventually fell prey to the fielder at deep square who took the catch with ease. Darshan was ecstatic as it was the first-ever hattrick in his career and second of the season.
Finally, Abhinav Manohar came to the strike since the ball traveled a considerable distance before landing in the hands of the fielder. However, it did not deter Darshan from his fiery approach. He decided to take the pace off and bowl it well wide off. Abhinav gives a hefty blow but the ball soared high up in the air and found the fielder at cover. Another easy catch and Darshan became the second Indian to achieve this rare feat of bagging four wickets in four deliveries.
Karnataka seal the match by 04 runs
Despite the brilliant bowling display in the final over, Vidarbha could not turn things in their favor. A steady start towards the total but yet a valiant fight to take some positives from the game. Vidarbha needed 14 runs off the final over to secure a place in the finals.
Vidyadhar Patil is the man for Karnataka. He dismissed the set Akshay Karnewar in the first ball. Darshan Nalkande, the star for Vidarbha came to the crease. He could not produce the same magic with the willow, all credits to the brilliant bowling by Patil. He slapped a boundary off the final ball but that was not enough to take the team over the line. Karnataka are through to the finals and will meet Tamil Nadu on Monday.
