“I would play both Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik. At No.5, Rishabh Pant, No.6 Hardik Pandya or the vice-versa and I’ll play Dinesh Karthik at No.7,” Gavaskar told Sports Tak.
The legendary batter said he would go with Hardik and four other bowlers. He stressed the need to take risks since success is impossible without them. In his view, taking risks in all areas is necessary in order to reap rewards.
Gavaskar added that the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup might be won by Rohit Sharma and company. He provided a reason for his claim by pointing out that the team has a good balance. He continued by saying that India’s pace attack has been reinforced by the return of the nation’s top pacers, Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel.
The ‘Little Master’ claimed that the Asia Cup incident served as a wake-up call. He is therefore optimistic that this side will return with the World Cup. Gavaskar believes that we should support the squad that has been chosen. He emphasized the need to back them now that the moment has arrived.
The World Cup champion batter highlighted Team India’s difficulties in the Asia Cup. He believes that the Men in Blue’s lack of such bowlers who can defend a total was their main drawback in the competition.
Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel’s return, he continued, had resolved the issue. According to him, those two bowlers are the kind who can protect targets and strike up front if you bowl first. He believes that the return of these two has made the squad stronger.
