T20 World Cup 2021: Afghanistan is locking horns with Team India in Group 2 in the Super 12 stage of the showpiece event. The game is taking place at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Earlier, Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi won the toss and elected to bowl first. Team India got off to a terrific start in the form of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.
The openers registered a record 140-run stand, which is also India’s highest opening partnership in T20 World Cup. KL Rahul scored 69 off 48 balls including 6 fours and 2 sixes.
Rohit Sharma top-scored with 74 off 47 balls. The flamboyant cricketer struck 8 fours and as many as 3 sixes at a strike rate of 157.45. Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya provided great support till the end of the innings.
The duo added a quickfire 63-run stand for the third wicket. In the end, India posted 214 for the loss of 2 wickets in their quota of 20 overs. This is also the highest team’s total in this T20 World Cup.
Meanwhile, an incident took place when Rohit Sharma was batting on 49. Rohit hit the ball for a boundary but the Afghanistan fielder dived in an attempt to stop the ball in the first place.
Cricket is a gentleman’s game but there were times when players crossed their limits in the name of match-fixing. These infamous incidents happened in the franchise cricket leagues.
Meanwhile, the game between India and Afghanistan in the Super 12 stage raised the ugly truth of match-fixing among the Pakistan fans. They even took to Twitter to express their opinion.
The Afghanistan fielder could have easily stopped the ball in the first place but instead, he pushed the ball towards the boundary line. Pakistan fans feel that was quite deliberate as the fielder intentionally pushed the ball for a boundary.
