The tried and tested duo of Evin Lewis, and Lendl Simmons opened the innings for West Indies. They couldn’t do much against England’s disciplined bowling attack. Chris Woakes dismissed Lewis for six runs in the second over, while Moeen Ali picked the wicket of Simmons in the next over. They both could add only nine runs to the West Indies total.

Chris Gayle and Shimron Hetmyer played a few shots, and it looked like West Indies was back on track. However, the bowlers dismissed them both by the time the powerplay was over.

The situation got worse post the powerplay. The West Indies batters had no answer to the questions put forward by England’s bowlers. Wickets kept falling one after the other. West Indies was all-out for 55 runs in 14.2 overs. Only Chris Gayle managed to score in double digits. It is the second-lowest total by West Indies in T20Is. The lowest total also came against England in March 2019.

Jason Roy and Jos Buttler came out to open the innings for England. They were clearly in a mood to end the match as early as possible. However, Roy fell for a trap set by Ravi Rampaul. Roy glanced a slow ball towards short mid-wicket, which Gayle caught, and England lost its first wicket.

In the fifth over, Akeal Hosein dismissed Jonny Bairstow for nine runs. Moeen Ali was run out in the sixth over. The pitch had a lot to offer to bowlers in the second innings as well. However, the runs on the board were not enough to defend.

Morgan came out to bat next, and there was no sign of Dawid Malan. Morgan and Buttler finished the game for England in 8.2 overs.
