T20 World Cup 2021: The marquee tournament of ICC has come to an end. Moreover, it has been an eventful tournament from the very beginning till the end.
The primary favourites in the tournament were India, England, and West Indies. But out of the three teams, only one team made it to the semi-finals. Which goes on to show the tough competition in the cricketing tournament.
However, the men in blue made it difficult for themselves from the starting itself. The Virat Kohli led India to lose against their arch-rivals Pakistan in a dominating way. Moreover, the same was seen against New Zealand as well.
And by this time, India was virtually out of the tournament. While on the other hand, Australia and England were giving top performances in Group A. And West Indies were also out of the tournament.
Moreover, the whole tournament went on to become unpredictable. It was because the favourites were not performing and the underdogs were performing. England, Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand qualified for the semi-finals.
However, it was Australia who went on to win their maiden T20 World Cup. Moreover, it was a dominating performance from the Australians since New Zealand failed to put up a memorable performance. As a result of that, Australia won their first T20 World Cup in the UAE on Sunday.
T20 World Cup 2021: Kevin Pietersen picks his best XI of the World Cup
The T20 World Cup was also packed with many memorable individual performances. And it would be hard to fit in every player with such performance in the best XI of the World Cup. But Kevin Pietersen has gone on to name his best XI.
Moreover, he went on to pick Mohammad Rizwan and Jos Butler as his openers. Both the openers were consistent and brilliant through the T20 World Cup. Kevin then picked up Pakistan captain Babar Azam at number three.
However, his middle-order consisted of Charith Asalanka, Aiden Markram, and Moeen Ali. Kevin Pietersen chooses Wanindu Hasaranga and Moeen Ali as his primary all-rounders in the starting eleven.
He picked Adam Zampa, Trent Boult, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and South African speedster Anrich Nortje as his bowlers. All the above bowlers went on to perform brilliantly.
Kevin also choose Adam Zampa as his man of the tournament and justified the pick. He said, “Zampa’s wicket-taking ability in the middle overs was one of the key reasons why Australia won the tournament.”
However, there were certain top names like David Warner who went missing from the squad. The Australian international was brilliant throughout the tournament but he is still not being selected in most of the best XI teams by cricket experts.
