T20 World Cup 2021: Pakistan former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar had his views over Man of the tournament of T20 World Cup 2021 and termed it ‘absolute foolery’. Australia opening batsman David Warner was named as the Man of the tournament while Akhtar believes Babar Azam deserves it more as he’s the highest run-getter in the tournament.
David Warner scored 289 runs at an average of 48.16 in 7 games for Australia while Babar Azam scored 303 runs in 6 games at an average of 60.60. The Pakistan skipper was in the best form during the tournament where David Warner has performed when the team needed it most. Here Akhtar took his Twitter and expressed his disbelief over Man of the tournament.
T20 World Cup 2021: David Warner was sacked from SRH captaincy
In the IPL 2021, the Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Warner was removed from his captaincy all of sudden to hand over the captaincy to Kane Williamson. Warner showed his disbelief over his decision and was quite shocking to him after his poor form with the bat for the franchise.
To put things into perspective, the Southpaw proved himself in T20 World Cup 2021 and smashed 3 half-centuries in the world cup. David Warner also scored a half-century in the world cup final against New Zealand and helped his side to lift the maiden title.
With the poor batting form of Aaron Finch continuing in the World Cup, David Warner provided much-needed help to the team on occasions and helped them emerge winners. David Warner has been more dangerous when performing for Australia.
Shoaib Akhtar speaks on New Zealand team after another ICC final defeat
In the final of the T20 World Cup, New Zealand batted first and scored 172 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Skipper Kane Williamson scored 85 runs off 48 balls which included 10 fours and 3 Sixes and was the highest scorer from his side.
Still, after scoring many runs the black Caps has lost the finals by 8 wickets to Australia. Shoaib Akhtar believes New Zealand has not performed like a team in the finals and the spark was missing in the team to stop the Aussies.
In reply, Australia chased down the target and lift their maiden T20 World Cup trophy after being runner-ups in 2010 where they lost the finals to England. While in 2007 they were the semifinalists and lost to the Dhoni-led side in the high-scoring match.
In his YouTube video, Akhtar said “New Zealand never performed like team against Australia in the finals. Once Australia gets the momentum they never allowed the opposition to get back into the match. One thing which is out of my knowledge that What was Glenn Phillips purpose in the team. When performed neither with bat or bowl,”
Akhtar believes New Zealand has missed the x factor-like fast bowlers in the team who can restrict the opposition teams. In the past, they have qualified to the knockout stages but are unable to cross the line which they have to change now for their betterment in world cricket.
Ashes Series awaits for Australia after T20 World Cup 2021 glory
After the T20 World Cup, Australia will play the Ashes series against England which starts from December 8 at Gabba. Mitchell Marsh’s performance in the final might help him earn a place in the test squad according to Ian Healy during the Ashes Series.
