T20 World Cup 2022: England national cricket team led by Jos Buttler got off to a brilliant start to their World Cup campaign in Australia.
The Three Lions locked horns with the Afghanistan national cricket team in their first game of the Super 12 fixture. England beat Afghanistan by 5 wickets.
However, they failed to bring the best out of themselves when they locked horns with the Ireland cricket team at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Ireland cricket team had haunted England cricket team during the ICC ODI World Cup 2011. Ireland crashed England’s party in the showpiece event in India.
Meanwhile, Ireland once again did all the damage to the England cricket team in the Super 12 fixture in Melbourne. Ireland beat England by 5 runs (as per DLS).
Ireland well and truly deserved full points. They approached quite well against the England cricket team in the recently-concluded fixture today.
The 20th game between England and Ireland did live up to the expectations of the fans. Nobody expected Ireland to produce a pretty good performance.
During the game, Ireland’s paceman Fionn Hand bowled a cracker of a delivery to get the better of England all-rounder Ben Stokes.
Batting first, Ireland scored 157 on the board. In reply, England scored 105 for the loss of 5 wickets in 14.3 overs. However, at that time, they were 5 runs behind as per the DLS.
Jos Buttler at the post-match presentation said, “They bowled well and used the wicket well. It (the rain) was going to get heavier and heavier wasn’t it, but again as I said we won the toss and chose to bowl with the advantage of knowing what to do with the bat.
“They outplayed us in all three facets of the game and the better team won. We know we have made a mistake here and have put more pressure on us, but certainly if you needed a game to get going then England-Australia is one of those,” he added.
