T20 World Cup 2022: Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has made a bold and straightforward opinion about whether Shikhar Dhawan will crack the code to get into the Indian cricket team.

The upcoming marquee event is slated to be held in Australia in October-November. Shikhar Dhawan is a proven customer as far as the ICC events are concerned. He has time and again played crucial knocks for the team.

However, it remains to be seen if he will get into the team. It’s due to the fact that the selectors have stuck to the same template of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul as the first-choice openers.

Shikhar Dhawan did prove his worth in the fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League for Punjab Kings franchise. The southpaw scored 460 runs in 14 games at a superb batting average of 38.33.

He even struck three half-centuries to his name. Despite proving his credentials, he still faces a tough competition in white-ball cricket as Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are the preferred opening pair.

KL Rahul ended up as the second-leading run-scorer in the last season’s IPL. He has been in terrific form with the bat as well. So, it’s quite tough for Shikhar Dhawan to make the cut in the Indian cricket team.
