T20 World Cup 2022: Sunil Gavaskar reveals that Harshal Patel will be a Trump card for India

T20 World Cup 2022: India were hosting South Africa in the fifth match on Sunday, June 19. Moreover, the game was taking place at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, India.

India were coming into this fixture after winning against South Africa in the fourth T20 match on Friday. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma went on to win the toss and he decided to have a bowl first.

The men in blue were off to a lazy start with the quick wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad. A similar trend continued in terms of the middle order. But Dinesh Karthik helped India get to 169 runs.

South Africa had a horrible start and the trend continued till the end. The Proteas were technically all out for 87 runs as Temba Bavuma did not come to bat again. India won the match by 82 runs.

Dinesh Karthik went on to win the man of the match award in the fourth T20 match. Moreover, he scored 55 runs from 27 balls with a strike rate of 203.70.

The fifth match unfortunately was abandoned after a play of just around three overs. It was due to the constant rainfall in Bengaluru during the match time.

Sunil Gavaskar has gone on to reveal that Harshal Patel will be a game changer for the Indian team. The former Indian cricketer reveals that Harshal Patel is a game changer in T20 cricket.

Gavaskar said, “He will be one of the trumps cards because you have Bhuvneshwar, Shami and Bumrah as well. Brilliant for a skipper to have someone like him to depend on. 

He can come in and bowl maybe even in the powerplay where people are now going with a change of pace. So yes he certainly should be part of the group.”

Even Graeme Smith lauded the RCB player. “He has been excellent. Nobody skills in the death overs with the slower ball but I feel from game 3 he found his right length and picked up wickets and kept the pressure on the South Africans.”
