Chelsea were looking to sell a couple of their players in order to balance their books regarding FFP rules. The Blues made a big move signing Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan. The fee is reportedly North of the £100 million mark.
However the European champions have a lot of fringe players in their squad. The London based club is still looking to offload them and it is close to offloading at least a couple of players.
Tammy Abraham off to AS Roma
Tammy Abraham was there at Stamford Bridge for a long time. Though he got some chances under the then manager, Frank Lampard. But he rarely impressed the current manager, Thomas Tuchel. The German definitely does not have much faith in the Englishman.
Since Tammy was not going to get many chances, he anyway decided to leave the club this summer. Aston Villa and West Ham United were keen on him in the beginning of the transfer window. But the asking price of him was around £40 million. The two clubs could certainly not afford the price tag.
The England International was then tracked by Arsenal and AS Roma. Both were in a tussle to bring him. Tammy Abraham was keen on moving across the city to North London. He even went on to agree on personal terms with Arsenal. But according to a report from Corriere dello Sport, the 23-year-old has chosen AS Roma as his next destination.
Tammy Abraham came through the ranks at the academy and he was impressive in the Chelsea youth team. After a range of loan moves, Tammy came back to Chelsea in 2019. He got some chances under Frank Lampard.
Tammy Abraham made a total of 82 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions and scored 30 goals. He featured 22 times in the Premier League last season.
And now after a long time at Chelsea, he is all set to join AS Roma. According to Italian journalist Tammy Abraham will be flying to Italy today for the completion of the deal.
Why did Tammy choose AS Roma over Arsenal?
It is surprising that despite Arsenal’s genuine interest in the striker, he chose to join AS Roma. But there are big reasons as to why Tammy chose AS Roma over Arsenal.
Tammy Abraham will be earning a massive salary of £3.8 million per season. Arsenal were definitely not looking to provide that much for Tammy. He also has been given his favorite nine number shirt at AS Roma. Though this is not a very big reason, Tammy Abraham still liked the gesture of the Italian club.
Of all the reasons, AS Roma’s desperation was the most important. Arsenal were keen on Tammy Abraham, but they were not looking to outrightly move for him. The Gunners want to first sort out their creative problems. Bringing a new creative midfielder is the utmost priority of the North London club right now.
Since Edin Dzeko has made up his mind over the Inter Milan transfer, AS Roma desperately needed Tammy. They promised him regular game time, which is the most important of all for Tammy Abraham.
