Team India produced skyrocketing performance across formats over the last couple of years. They stunned Australia and England at their fortress and came through with flying colours.
India started the last year by breaching Australia’s fortress, Brisbane, Gabba and then ended the year by breaching South Africa’s fortress, SuperSport Park, Centurion.
Moreover, they also stunned England by beating them at the Lord’s. Basically, India had immense depth in their arsenal to come out on top much to the opposition teams’ annoyance.
However, they ran through a sudden blip ever since the start of 2022. Despite taking the first lead in the three-match Test series, the visitors went on to lose the series by 2-1.
South Africa went back to the drawing board and corrected its woes before it was too late. As a result, they clinched the Test series and also marched ahead with the same formula in the ODI series.
Proteas pulled off the unthinkable as they whitewashed India in the ODI series. They won the first ODI by 31 runs, the second ODI by 7 wickets and the third ODI by 4 runs.
Indian Squad missed Jadeja and Pandya: Rahul Dravid
India’s limited-overs captain Rohit Sharma already pulled out of the Test and ODI series against South Africa due to a hamstring injury. He has been working really hard on his fitness and has also reduced some kilos.
This will help him keep his body fit and will also help him prolong his cricketing career. Since Rohit Sharma was not part of the ODI series, the BCCI named KL Rahul as the stand-in captain.
However, under his captaincy, India didn’t get off the mark in the rainbow nation. Meanwhile, India’s head coach Rahul Dravid was disappointed with the team’s performance in the Test and ODI series.
The former Indian cricketer admitted that the current Indian ODI squad is “unbalanced”. The head coach also went on to reveal the names of the two players whom they missed a lot.
“Hopefully, when they (Hardik and Jadeja) come back, it will give us a lot more depth, it allows us then to probably play in a slightly different style,” Dravid added in a statement.
“I think if you are a little bit honest, some of the guys who help us balance the squad out and give us those all-round options at No. 6, 7 and 8 are probably not here, and available for selection,” said Dravid.
