Team India needs to do only one thing to play ICC Test Championship Trophy final

Team India worked their socks off especially after the Adelaide Test debacle against Australia. They were bowled out for a paltry score of 36 in the second innings. This is their lowest ever total in the history of Test cricket. Australia comfortably aced the run-chase by 8 wickets.

After Virat Kohli’s departure, Ajinkya Rahane took the charge and led the team ever so well. Team India bounced back in Melbourne Test and won by 8 wickets. Both teams went toe-to-toe with each other in the third Test. However, the SCG Test ended in a sensational draw.

Ajinkya Rahane’s team breached the fortress and won the game by 3 wickets. Team India scripted history by becoming the first team to beat Australia after 32 years. In the process, they also secured second consecutive Test series glory in Australian soil.

Indian captain Virat Kohli will return to action for the upcoming home series against England. India and England will play four Tests, five T20Is, and three ODIs. The intriguing tour kicks off with the Test series. The first Test will be held on February 5 in Chennai.

What Team India should do to play the Test finals?

Team India needs to do only one thing to play ICC Test Championship Trophy final

Team India beat Australia by 2-1 and retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy. However, they are not done yet. They still have a lot of things to be done in order to book a ticket to the iconic Lord’s to play the finals.

Now, let’s see the only thing Team India needs to do to play the ICC Test Championship Trophy finals. The only left out fixtures for Team India are against England. Both teams will go all guns blazing in the upcoming four-match Test series in India.

On the other hand, England are in sensational form in Test cricket. Joe Root-led team inflicted 2-0 whitewash on Sri Lanka and are on rampage mode. They are certain to pose a serious threat to India.

India are on top of the World Test Championship points table. They won 9 games, played out 3 draws, and lost just once. On the contrary, England are fourth in the table with 10 wins, 4 draws and 3 defeats.

Virat Kohli-led team has a tough challenge ahead as they need to secure at least 80 more points. If they manage to bag these many points to their account, they are certain to book a ticket to Lord’s.

What if Kohli’s team loses one Test match?

There is only one option for Team India to play the Test finals. They must beat England by a convincing margin. India must get the better of England by a 2-game margin. But what if India loses one Test? In this case, India must win all the remaining three matches.

India has four possibilities to book a ticket to Lord’s. Now, let’s put it in terms of scoreline now. India must win either 4-0, 3-1, 3-0, or 2-0 respectively to meet the requirements.

In exceptional cases, if India loses the four-match Test series by 0-3 or 0-4, they will surely not make it to the final despite other results. It will be quite interesting to see how Virat Kohli’s team will approach the home Test series against England.
