With a modest budget of £45m, Unai Emery and Arsenal will have to work shrewdly to improve its squad. The Gunners lost the chance to increase their transfer budget and a chance to play in the Champions League following a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea.
With Unai Emery hoping to finish in the top 4 next season, he knows an overhaul is a must. With the likes of Mustafi, Ozil, Elneny all linked with an exit, it will be a busy summer at the Emirates. Many have already been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, so here are the latest rumours and reports doing the rounds today
Everyone seems to have got very carried away where Yannick Carrasco is concerned. Arsenal have followed him for a while and Sven Mislintat championed his signing. He is on their list but he’s not at the top of it.
Certainly he has been very public in his desire to come back to Europe but there is a lot of work left. Dalian Yifang won’t sell Carrasco for anything less than €30m, although the winger has stated that he’s ready for a return to Europe following over a year in the Chinese Super League.
There is interest from Arsenal, but they have not done anything to progress that. Talk of when he is going to sign is way ahead of the mark.
Arsenal favour a move for Ryan Fraser and until they’ve explored that move more thoroughly I wouldn’t expect them to make any sort of serious move for Carrasco.
Fraser is Arsenal’s top target for a winger. Arsenal are keen to sign Fraser, however there are two reasons why any progress isn’t happening.
It is in Arsenal’s interest to get Fraser in early so that he can get familiarised with Emery’s methods and play in pre-season. But with his contract at Bournemouth expiring there is an argument to hold fire until later in the window and build pressure on the Cherries, who will effectively have a choice of taking Arsenal’s money in the summer or getting a lot less in January or even nothing at all next summer.
Fraser has indicated to Bournemouth that he won’t sign a new deal. Everything is in Arsenal’s favour here, particularly as it seems likely that Chelsea, who had expressed an interest in him, will serve their transfer ban. It may be a while before this deal is done though.
The club are in need of a major overhaul but lack the funds to do so and Emery is having to reshape his squad on the cheap.
Atlernative to Fraser
The Gunners have already had two bids for the 21-year-old turned down but are willing to pay the €20 million asking price.
It is said that personal terms with the player have already been agreed.
Claude-Maurice scored 14 goals and made four assists in 35 appearances in Ligue 2 last season and would represent a cheaper and younger alternative to the likes of Yannick Carrasco and Ryan Fraser.
