Leicester City superstar Harry Maguire is in heavy demand all across England and Premier League champions Manchester City are the favorites to sign the star defender, but there is one reason as to why he will not force a move away from the King Power Stadium this summer.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are on course to achieve something incredibly special over the next few seasons as they plan on building a squad which is eager to win the quadruple. To go on and win the elusive Champions League title, City is preparing a squad which will compete for European glory after they managed to become the first team in history to complete a domestic treble this season.
Leicester City has a habit of losing their key players each summer and they could lose one more this season as well. Following their unbelievable Premier League success back in 2016, Leicester sold French midfielder N’golo Kante in the summer to Chelsea and Danny Drinkwater as well to the Blues the following season. And the last term, Manchester City swooped in for Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez for a transfer fee of £60 million.
With Manchester City club captain Vincent Kompany announcing that he will be leaving the club, there will be a massive void left at the heart of the City of Manchester Stadium. The 33-year-old Belgian central defender will be joining Anderlecht as a player/manager and City have identified Harry Maguire as his replacement.
The 26-year-old Maguire wants to be at the King Power Stadium because he feels gratitude towards Leicester City for purchasing him from relegated side Hull City. The Englishman signed a contract extension with Leicester last season and said, “They gave me an opportunity to play in the Premier League and built a great platform for me to go and perform at the World Cup, so I thank them a lot. I owe them a lot and I’m looking forward to the future.”
Maguire might become the most expensive defender of all time in the summer if Manchester City lines up a move for the center-back. There is also an air of optimism around Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City and something could be brewing which could make Maguire remain at the club.
