Thomas Tuchel news: His Chelsea career
Chelsea signed Tuchel in January 2021, with the German manager replacing Frank Lampard. The Blues had parted ways with Lampard following a string of poor performances.
Tuchel guided Chelsea to Champions League glory that season. The Stamford Bridge outfit defeated Manchester City 1-0 in the Champions League final to become the European champions.
He also guided Chelsea to the FA Cup final, where they lost to Leicester City. Chelsea finished that season fourth in the Premier League. Tuchel also won the FIFA Club World and UEFA Super Cup with Chelsea in 2021.
Under the tutelage of Tuchel, Chelsea finished third in the Premier League points table last season. In the Champions League, they reached the quarter-finals, where Real Madrid knocked them out of the competition. They again reached the FA Cup final, but could not win the title.
Meanwhile, Chelsea had a mixed start to the 22/23 season. They began their campaign with a 1-0 win over Everton in their Premier League season opener. They dropped points in their next game as Tottenham Hotspur held them to a 2-2 draw.
Chelsea then suffered their first defeat of the season as Leeds United secured a 3-0 win over the Blues. They returned to winning ways when they registered a 2-1 win over Leicester City. Chelsea then lost their next game as Southampton defeated them 2-1.
Chelsea faced West Ham in their next game in the Premier League and earned all three points from the match. They beat the London rivals 2-1.
Chelsea then kicked off their Champions League 22/23 campaign by facing Dinamo Zagreb. The Blues lost that game as Zagreb secured a 1-0. Tuchel was sacked following this defeat.
