Premier League side Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel reign has been advancing on a smooth track in England. The German head coach created an impression of the ‘right man for the job’ in West London. The Blues squad was already on top of the quality when legend Frank Lampard left his office.
Tuchel got a brilliant set of players and all he wanted to do is to find the correct line-up from that set. The former PSG man has succeeded in that process within a month in Stamford Bridge. Here are the seven players who got a liking of Tuchel in the squad. Surprisingly, N’Golo Kante and Kai Havertz are major missing from his favourite players list
Thomas Tuchel’ Seven Untouchable Chelsea Stars:
The 29-year-old Italian midfielder has been one of the promising players in the Premier League since his arrival in England. Tuchel was an admirer of the player from his French camp. Jorginho was not the first option in Stamford Bridge when club legend Frank Lampard took the charge of the Blues.
But, Tuchel used the player more often and Jorginho played all league fixtures under the German. He is an absolute fit for Tuchel’s ‘double six’ in the midfield and got a consistent role in the midfield.
2. Cesar Azpilicueta
Club Captain Azpilicueta got only 7 games under Frank Lampard in the first half of the season. But Tuchel’s decision for a three-man defensive line admitted Azpilicueta to the right attacking wingback role. Also, he opened up the scoring account in the Tuchel regime by scoring against Burnley.
“To find a guy like Azpilicueta in your office is simply amazing,” Tuchel said after his first game in charge of Blues. The 31-year-old has cemented his position in the formation and finding consistency under the new boss. (Football London)
3. Antonio Rudiger
The German centre-back has got one more year in Stamford Bridge as per his contract. He struggled in the initial stages of his Chelsea career. But, worked hard with the defensive action under Lampard. He upgraded his status as the first-choice option in the defensive line from the fifth choice by the end of Lampard’s regime. He played every Premier League minute under Tuchel and has been the solid option in the backline. Chelsea are not sure about the contract extension but he can claim one under Tuchel’s style of play.
4. Mateo Kovacic
The Croatian has been improving day by day under Thomas Tuchel. Chelsea boss is a strong admirer of the player and revealed that in words last week. Kovacic is really good with possession in the midfield of Tuchel. His threatening runs and recovery capability made him the pivot in the midfield strategy of the new boss. His cameo in the Newcastle fixture has won a lot of appreciation from the manager and that was a statement from the Croatian regarding his future in West London.
5. Mason Mount
The young England international has got wide attention in the Lampard reign and valued as the future of Chelsea’s midfield. He continued the same form under Thomas Tuchel despite his absence in the first game of the German. Smart use of the ball and pressing ability is the quality of the player. He can decorate the midfield of the Blues for more years and can make himself a club legend. Tuchel’s watch is the perfect ground for the growth of the player.
6. Callum Hudson-Odoi
Chelsea academy product Hudson-Odoi was the promising foot in the attacking line since his U-18 Chelsea career. He got his first senior team appearance under Antonio Conte and stayed in the first line options even after his time. But, injuries affected the pace of the striker and kept him out of the competition.
After Lampard took the charge, Hudson-Odoi managed to regain his spot in the team. Tuchel is also using the player with more confidence and he is a favorite of the German in the multiple roles in the attacking.
7. Timo Werner
The star striker Timo Werner got more attention after Stamford Bridge contacted Thomas Tuchel for the new job. Werner was one of the celebrated transfers of Chelsea last year. He struggled to find the back of the net under Lampard’s watch. But, his performance against Newcastle ended up the goal drought and refresh the impressions of the team. The 24-year-old has got good numbers in the profile. He scored 8 goals from 11 opening fixtures. He is a reliable goal-scoring option for Tuchel and influences the title intention of the Blues.
