Arsenal have been struggling this transfer window with signing good quality players and even more so due to the fact that all the big teams are headed by legendary managers like Guardiola, Conte, Mourinho, etc. It is becoming increasingly tough to get good deals and Arsenal haven’t exactly been having the best of seasons since..well, forever.
The biggest concern right now for them is to get a good quality striker because as proven multiple times, they cannot rely solely on Giroud. Wenger was chasing deals with Mauro Icardi and Alexandre Lacazette but nothing concrete has been confirmed yet. With increasingly high competition and so much at stake this season, here’s a list of 3 potential strikers that could really elevate Arsenal’s situation, if signed.
1. Alvaro Morata
Morata will be a major asset and a strong addition to any team. With his future being uncertain, a lot of big clubs and Arsenal have shown interest in him. He impressed even in the Euro 2016 campaign for Spain and is a very attack-oriented sharp player.
Although his record in the Serie-A isn’t something that can be boasted about (15 in two seasons in the Italian top flight), he is still a highly regarded youth player with a lot to offer. Despite being just 23, he is definitely better than most of Arsenal’s current options. However, such a player would not come cheap and Wenger would need to splurge if at all he wants Morata playing in an Arsenal jersey, with Real Madrid looking for a huge bounty for their priced possession.
2. Javier Hernandez
The former Manchester United super-sub and current Bayer Leverkusen player, Chicharito is perhaps the best option for the Gunners. The way he was treated at United in his last few seasons were brutal and letting him go is something Manchester United regrets till date and rightfully so, because Hernandez is showing what he is made of at Germany.
He has a noteworthy record of 26 goals in all competitions, and he is lethally dangerous anytime he steps into the field. He can weave through even the toughest of defences and set up chances or net the ball himself.
Also, he did prove at Manchester United that he can be dependable even in the toughest of situations and score even at the most dire times. That spirit of his is something that Arsenal could really make use of, especially since their attack is very weak and vulnerable if something happens to Giroud.
3. Alexandre Lacazette
This deal was almost on the verge of materialising but then, as mentioned earlier, nothing concrete has been confirmed as of yet. Lacazette has a record of 63 goals in the last 3 seasons of the Ligue 1, and that speaks volumes as to just how deadly he can get.
The very fact that Lacazette has still not been getting offers from bigger clubs is indeed a mystery, but then this could’ve been Arsenal’s chance to make a move and make him theirs before he received attention from other clubs. They did receive competition from West Ham for him, but aside from a few rumours, nothing else has been reported thus far.
Lyon’s asking price was £40million, and that seemed like a good deal for a player like Lacazette. If Wenger managed to sign him, then Lacazette would surely be a massive upgrade when compared to Giroud and could’ve helped boost Arsenal’s chances ten-fold.
Conclusively, Arsenal did finish second last season and so they will need to focus on both Premier League and Champions League commitments this time. If only they could manage to sign a top-class striker then maybe they would have a better chance. However, last time, the Premier League didn’t have as much competition as would happen this season and Wenger desperately needs a good striker to still put up a good fight. That doesn’t seem too likely now, since no deal has been mentioned so far.
