Ishant Sharma reveals how his batting irritated MS Dhoni in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2019.

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni is known for his calm demeanour both on and off the field. There have been very few instances when the wicketkeeper-batsman lost his cool during a cricket match. Ishant Sharma recalled one such moment from IPL 2019 when the CSK Captain got irritated after watching his batting skills.

The incident took place during an IPL 2019 match between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings. Sharma made the revelation about the former India captain in a chat-show hosted by sports presenter Gaurav Kapur on Youtube. Dhoni was apparently left agitated after Ishant smashed CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for 10 runs off 2 balls.

Dhoni taunted Ishant saying that he cannot hit a six.

Recalling the incident, Ishant revealed how Dhoni taunted him saying that the lanky pacer cannot hit a six. The pacer responded by hitting Jadeja for a four and a six, before looking back at his former captain. Dhoni lost his cool at Jadeja and gave the all-rounder an earful as the latter conceded two boundaries with three balls remaining.

“Last year in the IPL, Mahi bhai (Dhoni) used to make fun of me that I can’t hit sixes, saying you don’t have that power. Then came Jaddu (Jadeja) and I smashed him for a four and followed it with a six. Then I turned my head towards Mahi bhai to see his reaction, who abused Jaddu,” Ishant said during the show.

Sharma’s cameo guided the Capitals to a total of 147/9 in their stipulated 20 overs. The Yellow Brigade, in reply, chased down the target successfully in 19 overs with 6 wickets in hand. Shane Watson(50 off 32) and Faf du Plessis(50 off 39) scored half-centuries to propel the Super Kings into the finals of the tournament.

The unbeaten knock of 10 runs was perhaps Ishant Sharma’s best score in the IPL 2019 as he did not get to bat too often. He has featured 89 times in the lucrative tournament, scoring 55 runs, at an average below 10. The pacer however has snared 71 wickets, his best figures coming in 2011 season when he registered a fifer.
