The transfer market is starting to heat up and top-six Premier League sides are trying to get things done before the winter transfer window shuts down in 15 days. Arsenal has issues finding a new centre-back while United, Spurs and Chelsea are trying to seal the arrival and/or departure of their players as soon as possible. Nobody can ever guess what’s going on in Pep’s head and Klopp is just looking at the rest of the big English club from the top of the table with one hand already on the league trophy. Here is everything you need to know about the latest transfer updates amongst the EPL top six:
No respite for Arteta in the transfer market:
The 10th placed Arsenal are in a dire need of defensive reinforcements as the summer signing David Luiz continues to disappoint. The Brazilian was once again blamed for the Gunners’ 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on the weekend.
Arsenal are linked with the German centre-back Jerome Boateng for a winter move but they might have to fend off interests from AC Milan, claims Sky Sports. The Milan-based club are 10th in the Serie A table and are looking to turn their fortunes in the second half of the season. Despite signing Simon Kjaer from Sevilla, the Rossoneri are keen on adding another centre-back.
The 31-year old Boateng is reportedly available for just €15m as his stocks have fallen at Bayern Munich. Arsenal currently leads the race for the World Cup winner, having asked the Bavarians about the potential transfer fee, loan possibility and player’s wages. But with Ac Milan’s entry, things could get interesting.
Chelsea gets Olmo boost after Barca pull-out of the race:
Frank Lampard has received a huge boost in his pursuit of the Spaniard winger Dani Olmo. The Dinamo Zagreb player was heavily linked with Barcelona but Mundo Deportivo has reported that the Catalans have cooled their interests in the youngster.
The Blues are now the frontrunners to sign the 21-year old from the Croatian club for the reported transfer fee of £34m. Olmo himself is keen to move to a bigger club after his impressive Champions League performances. The Spaniard scored two and assisted one in six UCL group stage games.
The reports from The Transfer Window podcast claim that Chelsea have agreed to personal terms with yet another young attacking sensation – Moussa Dembele of Lyon. But the French club is unlikely to enter the negotiations for any move in the winter.
Liverpool says no to Shaq loan move:
The Reds have taken the back seat in the January winter transfer window after signing Takumi Minamino from Red Bull Salzburg. And why wouldn’t they? Liverpool currently leads the league table by 14 points with a game in hand. And they are not planning to tinker with their squad any further.
AS Roma had enquired about a potential loan move for Xherdan Shaqiri after Nicolo Zaniolo suffered a knee injury, putting him on the sidelines for the rest of the season. But the Reds have quickly rejected any loan move for the big Shaq in the winter, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Swiss has started just two league games this season but remains an important squad player with the hectic second half of the season.
City will not sell John Stones
In yet another bad news for Arsenal in the transfer market, Manchester City have no intention of selling centre-back John Stones. As mentioned before, the Gunners are looking for defensive options to sign in the winter transfer window.
But the Citizens, who are in a bit of defensive crisis of their own, are not planning to part ways with the Englishman. City have failed to compete with Liverpool for the league title ever since Aymeric Laporte’s injury at the start of the season. And although the Frenchman is likely to be back on the field very soon, Pep has no intention of selling John Stones at the moment.
Manchester United to part ways with the academy product:
Big news coming from Italy – Manchester United youngster Tahith Chong’s agent was spotted after a meeting with Inter Milan. The 20-year old winger is in the final few months of his United contract and will be a free agent in June.
The Dutchman made his senior debut under Ole last season but has started just two Europa League games this season. A number of European sides are said to be interested in Chong but the player has been offered to Inter Milan, reports Fabrizio Romano.
United’s big winter target, Bruno Fernandes has been heavily linked with the club for some time now but there is still no concrete news about the Portuguese’s future. According to the reports in Daily Mail, United and Sporting are yet to agree on the midfielder’s transfer fee. The Portuguese club has reportedly asked for £64m, at least £14m less than what United have offered.
New signing for Spurs as Eriksen saga continues:
It is just a matter of time before Tottenham announce the signing of Gedson Fernandes. In his press conference before the FA Cup replay, Mourinho said he was waiting for the news. “I am waiting for news. News can come or not. I’m more worried about Middlesbrough than the market”
But the Cristian Eriksen saga is far from over at the North London with the star midfielder in the last six months of his contract. Spurs want to get a minimum of £25m from the Danish midfielder in January before he becomes a free agent. Inter are leading the race for Eriksen but almost every big club has been linked with the midfielder. The latest reports from Football London claim that PSG have also entered the race with Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester United and of course, Inter. But as things stand, the Nerazzurri are the frontrunners.
