Transfer Updates of EPL Top 6 – All in One Place!
It was a busy Wednesday for most of the top six Premier League clubs in the transfer market. Arsenal are yet to make any significant progress in the market while their North London rivals have announced the arrival of a new player. Chelsea are trying to get a big fish from Real Madrid while United continue their pursuit of a long-term target. Citizens are unlikely to make any major additions to the squad in the winter but have already started planning for the summer. And Liverpool, they are sitting at the top of the table, quite handsomely! Here is everything that happened with the top six EPL clubs in the transfer market on 15th January:
Arsenal to go big – In the summer:
According to the reports in Football Insider, Mikel Arteta wants his club to fight Manchester United for Leicester City playmaker James Maddison. The Red Devils have been linked with the 23-year old for a summer move but the Gunners might enter the race very soon. The Foxes will not let their No. 10 leave for anything less than £80m, the reports suggest. Maddison has been in a fine form this season with six goals and three assists already to his name. But a lot can change for both Arsenal and United with the summer window still six months away.
The Gunner’s pursuit of Jerome Boateng hasn’t exactly gone according to the plans as Bayern are unwilling to sell the defender in January, reported Christian Falk of Sport Bild. So, the club might have to look elsewhere for defensive reinforcement – the one thing that they desperately need this season.
Chelsea – Big gun in, Big gun out?
Chelsea were apparently very busy in the transfer market on Wednesday. According to the reports in El Desmarque, the Blues want to sign Isco in the winter transfer window. As ambitious as it might sound, Real Madrid are actually open to selling the Spaniard playmaker. The reports also claim that the midfielder could be available for just £47m! (?) Surely, Florentino Perez won’t let Isco go for such a bargain price, will he? Nonetheless, it would be a great signing for Frank Lampard, who has already made plans to play Isco in front of N’golo Kante in the midfield.
The second big news from the Stamford Bridge is the departure of Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman is close to joining Inter Milan for €5m+add ons, reported Fabrizio Romano. The Italian transfer expert also stated that Inter Sports Director Piero Ausilio is in London to finalize the signing of the 33-year old striker. And Mr Ausilio has one more task to handle in London – more on that later!
Liverpool rejected Jack Grealish twice:
The Reds are so laid back in the current transfer market that the reporters are having to dig out news from the past. According to Liverpool Echo, Aston Villa offered Jack Grealish to the Reds back in 2018 when they failed to win the EPL promotion. The midfielder was offered once again in 2019 but Klopp decided against it on both occasions. So, there is definitely no truth in the reports about Liverpool’s current interest in Grealish, is there?
Manchester City already planning for the Summer?
Manchester City were reportedly eager to sign a high-profile center-back in January after Laporte’s injury. But with the Frenchman now nearing full fitness and the league title out of their sights, Pep has decided to plan for the next season.
According to various reports, the Spaniard tactician will definitely look for Laporte’s new partner in the summer. In the meantime, City have no interest in letting John Stones leave the Etihad after the defender was linked to Arsenal.
City are also likely to strengthen two more positions in the summer – A striker and a defensive midfielder.
Manchester United – Bruno, Done deal?
Bruno Fernandes to Manchester United has been in the news for a really long time now. But this leaked image might settle everything once and for all. The image can mean two things – United have sealed the deal for the midfielder and are waiting for the FA Cup replay against Wolves to be done before announcing it. OR, someone on the internet had a lot of time on their hands to do a bit of editing!
But reports from the Portuguese news outlet Record suggest that Bruno’s agent, Jorge Mendes has already arrived in England to finalize the deal.
Tottenham announce the signing of Gedson, time to announce a departure as well?
As expected, Spurs have announced the signing of Gedson Fernandes from Benfica. The 21-year old midfielder has joined the Londoners on an 18-month deal with an option to buy for £42.76m. Gedson became Jose Mourinho’s first signing at Tottenham after the manager’s arrival in November. Gedson is considered as a quality box-to-box midfielder and was part of Portugal’s squad during the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup.
And now coming to the inevitable news – Everything points towards Christian Eriksen’s departure in the winter. Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Danish midfielder has agreed to personal terms with Inter and is waiting for both clubs to finalize the deal. The Italian side has offered €10m but Spurs want a minimum of €20m for their star player. (What a freaking bargain!) As mentioned before, Inter Sporting Director Mr. Ausilio is in London and will start talks with Spurs soon after Giroud talks with Chelsea.
