Delhi Capitals Strongest Lineup: In the unavailability of Rishabh Pant, David Warner is the skipper of the Delhi Capitals. But who will take his position as the team’s first selection? The position of wicketkeeper is an open subject.

This year, David Warner continues as skipper of the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Warner began his long IPL tenure with the squad, back when they were known as the Delhi Daredevils.

And it was his achievements with the club that helped propel him to become one of the most dangerous opening batsmen in the world throughout categories.

Since wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is out for the year, David Warner has been elevated to leadership. Pant is rehabilitating from a vehicle accident in December of last year and will be sidelined for the rest of the year, with the IPL being one of the several competitions he will skip.

This presents a dilemma for Delhi Capitals in two ways. While they’ve addressed one by naming Warner as skipper, it remains to be seen who they will decide on as a wicketkeeper.

With Pant’s unavailability, DC has three players who may assume the gloves. Although all three have only maintained wickets on rare occasions in their careers. Phil Salt, Manish Pandey, and Sarfaraz Khan are their names.

Warner will fill one foreign player’s place, and DC is interested in including Mitchell Marsh, Rovman Powell, and quick bowler Anrich Nortje in their lineup. This suggests that Salt’s potential for maintaining wickets is slim.

Delhi Capitals’ current lineup:

Sarfaraz and Pandey play similarly. And Warner and current coach Ricky Ponting may choose the earlier because he is the younger player.

Except for this position, the remainder of the team practically chooses itself. Warner will bat first, followed by Prithvi Shaw. Both players are believed to be able to put together spectacular innings.

And Warner will be eager to establish his value given that his spot in Australia’s limited overs team is being called into doubt owing to his personal poor form and the development of Marsh and Travis Head as potential opening alternatives.

Marsh shone in the literally just-finished ODI series against India. He is a lock at No.3 and may potentially open later in the season if the partnership of Shaw and Warner fails. This creates a highly charged top three for DC that could claim the victory on its own.

Sarfaraz or Pandey can bat at No.4, with West Indies’ big batter Powell, vice-captain and all-rounder Axar Patel, and Lalit Yadav following. Kuldeep Yadav‘s current excellent batting achievements may ensure that he’s the initial tail-ender to be called up.

And he is expected to be an important part of DC’s spinner plans. Following Nortje are Khaleel Ahmed and Chetan Sakariya. In the unavailability of Kagiso Rabada, DC’s bowling squad appears to be less effective than it was previously. Implying that they’ll rely on their hitters to deliver.
