Torreira has said that he has been ‘treated very well’ after joining Atletico Madrid on loan from Arsenal. He said he will wish if the move is made permanent after the loan spell.
The Uruguayan fell out of favor under Mikel Arteta at the Emirates. The Spaniard preferred Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos over Torreira for most of the last campaign under him.
Now at Atletico, he had a mix start to the new campaign. In his debut against Celta Vigo, he started the game and oversaw a 2-0 victory. He came on as a substitute in the 79th minute in the 4-0 defeat against Bayern in the Champions League.
Torreira’s loan move was made to ease up space for Thomas Partey. He has spoken upon the nature of the move that happened from Arsenal and also the type of environment he’s feeling at his current club.
Torreira stance on Arsenal
The former Sampdoria man said that he didn’t felt the best of things at Arsenal. First of all, he was keen to stay at the club but felt to be forced out to bring in Thomas Partey.
“I’ve suffered a lot of things – I had a lot of personal problems and more than anything my family also suffered,” Torreira told Ovacion, cited by The Sun. Indeed, the move happened against his wishes.
The midfielder left Arsenal on a healthy note with a positive message to the fans. Once his exit was confirmed, he shared a photo of himself after winning the FA Cup last campaign on Instagram.
In the long message, he thanked all the players, the manager, and the staff for the memories he shared for two seasons at the club. He also captioned at the end of the message that he will remain a Gunner.
Torreira’s take on his treatment at Atletico
However, it seems Lucas Torreira may have found a new home. He seems to be a happier player to join the La Liga outfit on loan, saying he is well treated.
” I know that I am a year on loan. I’ve been treated very well. It all depends on how I go during the season” he said. “It is a new opportunity in my life, in which I have fought a lot because Atlético has always been one of my dreams, one of my goals as a team.
Torreira also says that he is poised to bring out his best in the Atletico colors. It is told in the hope that he wishes to make the move permanent at the end of his loan spell.
“Being able to achieve it at the age of 24 is something very important. It all depends on how I go during the season, which I hope is very good, and maybe in the future, I can stay in the club.”
